Strong Union Bright Futures

Union Togetherness, Future Prosperity

The future of railway employees is bright. The Indian Railways is steadily developing, and the government has allocated substantial funds in the railway budget. This will lead to infrastructure development and modernization of trains. The more the railways progress, the more opportunities and facilities will grow for employees.
It is essential to ensure regular recruitment and fill vacant posts so that employees are not overburdened with work. This will allow them to work without stress. Proper training should also be provided so they can perform their duties more effectively.

As for the younger generation, I firmly believe they should join the union from day one. This will benefit them in two ways—first, their future will be secure; and second, they will help strengthen the railway unions, which in turn will benefit the entire railway industry.

Therefore, It is important that the new generation connects with the union as soon as they join the railways. We are making constant efforts in this direction, working to connect every young employee with the union through trade union education. Alongside, they will gain in-depth knowledge about the railway industry and have the assurance that ‘There is always an Union standing with them—like an umbrella, ready to protect them in every situation.’

Challenge to Worker Unity

Politics vs Workers’ Unity: The Silent War Inside the Unions

Keeping employees united in today’s time is a very difficult task. The biggest reason for this is that political parties have created their own unions, leading to division and conflict within the organization.Party-based unions have seriously damaged worker unity. Keeping this challenge in mind, the All India Railwaymen’s Union and Northern Railwaymen’s Union have never aligned themselves with any political party.

Our clear effort has been to become a completely self-dependent organization. We run the union solely on employees’ contributions — we do not accept financial help from any political party or capitalist. We operate the union in a democratic manner — we conduct elections, and only those who win with public support lead the organizationIf we maintain true unity today, we can overcome any challenge. We can fight against privatization.

We can fulfill all our demands — and the only solution to the challenges and problems faced by railway employees is worker unity.
Strengthen your organization — only then can we succeed.

Training Future Union Leaders

Building Tomorrow’s Leaders: Youth Training Inside the Rail Union”

The new young employees joining the Railways are the future of our organization, Indian Railways, and the country. Therefore, it is essential to bring them forward and prepare them for leadership roles.

We are working to make these young employees aware of trade union thinking, rights, and responsibilities. For this, we are continuously organizing training programs like “Trade Union Workshops.”

Through this, young employees not only become responsible and skilled workers in the railways but also become aware of the organization. When they understand their rights and duties, they can strongly raise their voice against any injustice or exploitation.

Empowering Women in Unions

Empowering Women in Unions

Women in Railway Unions: From Participation to Policy Influence

In all the unions affiliated with the All India Railwaymen’s Federation, women have been strongly organized. At the same time, they have been given a platform to raise their issues themselves at the levels of workshops, divisions, General Managers, and the Railway Board.

To ensure women’s participation, we amended the constitution of the Northern Railwaymen’s Union and guaranteed their representation in the organization.

Truth About Pay Commissions

Truth About Pay Commissions

Decoding Pay Commissions: Promises, Performance & Pitfalls

The Pay Commission is extremely important for all central government employees, especially railway employees. I have been involved with the 5th, 6th, and 7th Pay Commissions. We led the 7th Pay Commission ourselves.

In my view, the best Pay Commission so far was the 6th Pay Commission, chaired by Justice B.N. Srikrishna. He gave significant benefits to employees — increased education allowance, higher hostel subsidy, and good hikes in salaries and allowances.

The 5th Pay Commission was not excellent, but could be considered satisfactory.

The promises made under the 7th Pay Commission were not fulfilled. For example, it was said that the basic pay would be at least ₹20,000, but only ₹18,000 was given.
Additionally, some allowances were cut — such as a 20% reduction in CCL (Child Care Leave) for women, which was not appropriate.

We worked very hard and tried to convince them, but it seems the chairman of the 7th Pay Commission, Justice Ashok Mathur, came under government pressure and did not do full justice to the workers.

Why Rail Privatization Fails

Why Rail Privatization Fails

Railways Can’t Be Privatized — And Shouldn’t Be

Railway privatization is actually not possible. Indian Railways is the lifeline of the poor and economically weaker sections. Some people may dream big and talk about privatization, but in reality, it is not feasible.

We are happy that the current Railway Minister, along with officials and unions, has collectively opposed privatization.

Now it is the responsibility of all of us employees to make Indian Railways a world-class product, improve its services, and ensure that Indian Railways continues to run safely within the public sector.

Digitization With Job Safety

Digitization With Job Safety

Smart Railways, Safer Jobs — A Balanced Transition

Railway digitization cannot be stopped, so in my view, the right thing to do is to align ourselves with it.

If digitization increases productivity, we must adopt it because that is what today’s consumer expects from us.

If technology can provide us better services, we should move forward in that direction. We have embraced digital technology in areas like networking, ticketing, data, and many others.

This has benefited not only passengers but also improved services for employees — and we have ensured that employees do not suffer any loss during this transition.
